विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
स॒ह॒स्र॒त॒म्या॑ वै यज॑मानस् सुव॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कम् ए॑ति , सैनँ॑ सुव॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कङ् ग॑मयति ।
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
+++(उदीचीं नीयमानाम् अनुमन्त्रयते-)+++ “सा मा॑ सुव॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कङ् ग॑म॒ये"त्य् आ॑ह ,
सुव॒र्गम् ए॒वैनल्ँ॑ लो॒कङ् ग॑मयति ।
Keith
By the thousandth the sacrifice goes to the world of heaven.
She makes him go to the world of heaven.
‘Do thou make me go to the world of heaven’, he says;
verily she makes him go to the world of heaven.
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
सा मा॒ ज्योति॑ष्मन्तल्ँ लो॒कङ् ग॑म॒येत्या॑ह।
ज्योति॑ष्मन्तम् ए॒वैनल्ँ॑ लो॒कङ् ग॑मय॒ति।
“सा मा॒ सर्वा॒न् +++(इन्द्रादीनां)+++ पुण्याल्ँ॑ लो॒कान् ग॑मये"त्य् आ॑ह॒ ,
सर्वा॑न् ए॒वैन॒म् पुण्याल्ँ॑ लो॒कान् ग॑मयति ।

‘Do thou make me go to the world of light’, he says;
verily she makes him go to the world of light.
‘Do thou make me go to all holy worlds’, he says;
verily she makes him go to all holy worlds [1].
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
“सा मा॒ +++(लोकेऽस्मिन्)+++ प्र॒ति॒ष्ठाङ् ग॑मय ।
प्र॒जया॑ प॒शुभि॑स् स॒ह पुन॒र् मा वि॑शताद् र॒यिर्” इति॑ ,
प्र॒जयै॒वैन॑म् प॒शुभी॑ र॒य्याम् प्रति॑ ष्ठापयति ।
प्र॒जावा॑न् पशु॒मान् र॑यि॒मान् भ॑वति, य ए॒वव्ँ वेद॑ ।
Keith
‘Do thou make me go to a secure place,
with offspring and cattle, let wealth again visit me’, (he says);
verily she establishes him with offspring and cattle in wealth.
Rich in offspring, cattle, and wealth he becomes who knows thus.
दानम्
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
ताम॒ग्नीधे॑ वा , ब्र॒ह्मणे॑ वा , होत्रे॑ वोद्गा॒त्रे वा॑ध्व॒र्यवे॑ वा दद्यात् ।
स॒हस्र॑म् अस्य॒ सा द॒त्ता भ॑वति ।
Keith
He should give her to the Agnidh, or the Brahman, or the Hotr or the Udgatr, or the Adhvaryu.
In giving her, he gives a thousand.
प्रतिग्रहणम्
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
स॒हस्र॑म् अस्य॒ प्रति॑गृहीतम् भवति॒ ,
यस् ताम् अवि॑द्वान् प्र॒ति॒गृ॒ह्णाति॑ ।[30]
+++(तस्मादेवं विदित्वा)+++ ताम् प्रति॑ गृह्णीयात् -
“एका॑सि॒ न स॒हस्र॑म् । एका॑न्त्वा भू॒ताम्प्रति॑ गृह्णामि॒ , न स॒हस्र॑म् ।
एका॑ मा भू॒ताऽऽवि॑श॒ , मा स॒हस्र॑म्” इति॑ ।
एका॑म् ए॒वैना॑म् भू॒ताम् प्रति॑ गृह्णाति , न स॒हस्रय्ँ॒ य ए॒वव्ँ वेद॑ ।

A thousand he accepts
who not knowing [2] accepts her.
He should accept her, (saying),
‘Thou art one, not a thousand. Thee as one I accept, not a thousand;
come to me as one, not as a thousand’;
verily he who knows thus accepts her as one, not as a thousand.
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
“स्यो॒नासि॑ सु॒षदा॑ सु॒शेवा॑+++(=सुफला)+++।
स्यो॒ना मा वि॑श, सु॒षदा॒ मा वि॑श , सु॒शेवा॒ मा वि॑श” +इत्या॑ह।[31]
स्यो॒नैवैनँ॑ सु॒षदा॑ सु॒शेवा॑ भू॒ताऽऽवि॑शति, नैनँ॑ हिनस्ति ।
Keith
‘Thou art gentle, resting well, auspicious;
come to me as gentle, well resting, auspicious,’ [3] he says;
verily she becoming gentle, well resting, auspicious, comes to him, and harms him not.
उत्सर्गदिक्
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
ब्रह्मवा॒दिनो॑ वदन्ति - “स॒हस्रँ॑ सहस्रत॒म्य् अन्वे॒ती३, +++(उत)+++ स॑हस्रत॒मीँ स॒हस्रा३म्?” इति॑ ।
+++(‘विचार्यमाणानाम्’ इति प्लुतः ।)+++
यत्+++(=यदि)+++ प्राची॑म् उत्सृ॒जेत् , स॒हस्रँ॑ सहस्रत॒म्य् अन्वि॑यात् । स॒हस्र॑म् अप्रज्ञा॒त्रँ+++(=प्रज्ञानरहितं)+++ सु॑व॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कन् न प्र जा॑नीयात् ।
प्र॒तीची॒म् उत्सृ॑जति । ताँ स॒हस्र॒मनु॑ प॒र्याव॑र्तते । सा प्र॑जान॒ती सु॑व॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कम् ए॑ति ।
Keith
The theologians say, ‘Does the thousandth follow the thousand? or the thousand the thousandth?’
If he were to let her go to the east, the thousandth would follow the thousand; now the thousand has no understanding, and would not recognize the world of heaven.
He lets her go to the west; the thousand follow after her. She knowing goes to the world of heaven.
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
यज॑मानम् अ॒भ्य् उत्सृ॑जति , क्षि॒प्रे +++(काले)+++ स॒हस्र॒म् प्र जा॑यते ।

He lets her go towards the sacrificer.
Quickly a thousand springs up.

उ॒त्त॒मा नी॒यते॑ , +++(पश्चात् सर्वास्ता नीयन्ते,)+++ प्रथ॒मा दे॒वान् ग॑च्छति +++(यजमानमपि गृहीत्वा)+++ ॥ [32]

The (thousandth) is the last to be taken, but the first to go to the gods.
