०४ अहीनेषु द्विरात्रविधिः

अङ्गि॑रसो॒ वै स॒त्त्रम् आ॑सत+++(→उपवेशने)+++। ते सु॑व॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कम् आ॑यन् । तेषाँ॑ +++(जनद्वयम्)+++ ह॒विष्माँ॑श् च हवि॒ष्कृच् चा॑हीयेता॒म् । ताव् अ॑कामयेताम् - सुव॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कम् इ॑या॒वेति। ताव् ए॒तन् +++(आङ्गिरसम्)+++ द्वि॑रा॒त्रम् अ॑पश्यता॒म् ।

The Angirases performed a sacrificial session. They went to the world of heaven.
Of them Havismant and Haviskrt were left behind.
They desired, ‘May we two go to the world of heaven.’ They two saw this two-night rite.

तम् आह॑रता॒म्+++(→आरभेताम्)+++। तेना॑यजेता॒म्। ततो॒ वै तौ सु॑व॒र्गल्ँ लो॒कमै॑ताम्।
य ए॒वव्ँ वि॒द्वान् द्वि॑रा॒त्रेण॒ यज॑ते, सुव॒र्गम् ए॒व लो॒कम् ए॑ति।
तावैता॒म् पूर्वे॒णाऽह्नाऽग॑च्छता॒म् उत्त॑रेण।

They grasped it, and sacrificed with it. Then they went to the world of heaven.
He, who knowing thus offers the two-night sacrifice, goes to the world of heaven.
They went with the first day and arrived with the second [1].

+++(आङ्गीरसः = (ज्योष्टोमः, सर्वस्तोमो ऽतिरात्रः)।)+++

अ॒भि॒प्ल॒वᳶ +++(षडहस्याद्यम् अहः)+++ पूर्व॒म् अह॑र् भवति॒, गति॒र् +++(अष्टमोतिरात्रविशेषः)+++ उत्त॑रम् ।

The first day is the Abhiplava, the second the complete (gati).

+++(त्रिवृदादि-स्तोम-चतुष्टयवान्)+++ ज्योति॑ष्टोमो ऽग्निष्टो॒मᳶ+++(→अग्निष्टोमसामान्तं)+++ पूर्व॒म् अह॑र् भवति। तेज॒स् तेनाव॑ रुन्धे+++(=लभते)+++।
सर्व॑स्तोमो ऽतिरा॒त्र उत्त॑रम्, सर्व॒स्याऽऽप्त्यै॒ सर्व॒स्याव॑रुध्यै ।

The first day is the Jyotistoma form of the Agnistoma; with it he wins splendour.
The second day is an Atiratra with all the Stomas, that he may obtain all and win all.

गाय॒त्रम् पूर्वे ऽह॒न्त् साम॑ भवति। तेजो॒ वै गा॑य॒त्री। गा॑य॒त्री ब्र॑ह्मवर्च॒सम्। तेज॑ ए॒व ब्र॑ह्मवर्च॒सम् अत्मन् ध॑त्ते।

On the first day the Saman is in the Gayatri (metre). The Gayatri is brilliance and splendour; verily he bestows brilliance and splendour on himself.

त्रैष्टु॑भ॒म् उत्त॑रे। ओजो॒ वै वी॒र्य॑म्। त्रि॒ष्टुग्+++(भ्)+++ ओज॑ ए॒व। वी॒र्य॑म् आ॒त्मन् ध॑त्ते।

On the second day (the Saman) is in the Tristubh metre. The Tristubh is force and strength; verily he bestows force and strength on himself.

र॒थ॒न्त॒रम् पूर्वेऽह॒न्त् साम॑ भवति ।
इ॒यव्ँ वै र॑थन्त॒रम्। अ॒स्याम् ए॒व प्रति॑ तिष्ठति।

The Saman on the first day [2] is the Rathantara.
The Rathantara is this (earth); verily he stands firm on this (earth).

बृ॒हदुत्त॑रे। असौ वै बृ॒हद्। अ॒मुष्या॑म् ए॒व प्रति॑ तिष्ठति।

तद् आ॑हु॒ᳶ- क्व॑ जग॑ती चानु॒ष्टुप् चेति॑ ।
वैखान॒सम् पूर्वे ऽह॒न्त् साम॑ भवति ।
+++(बार्हतं साम वैखानसं भवति। बृहती-चतुर्-अभ्यासात् षट्-त्रिंशद्-अक्षरा ३६ = ९*४ । तत्र १२x३ जगत्यो भवन्ति ।)+++ तेन॒ जग॑त्यै॒ नैति॑ +++(हानिम्)+++ ।
षोड॒श्य् उत्त॑रे॒ +++(यत्र द्वे चानुष्टुभौ)+++। तेना॑नु॒ष्टुभः॑ +++(नैति हानिम्)+++ ।

They say, ‘Where are the Jagati and the Anustubh?’
On the first day the Saman is that of Vikhanas;
verily he does not leave the Jagati.
On the second it is the Sodaçin; verily he does not leave the Anustubh.

अथा॑हु॒र्- यत् स॑मा॒ने॑ ऽर्धमा॒से स्याता॑म् +++(द्वे अप्यहनी)+++, अ॒न्य॒त॒रस्याह्नो॑ वी॒र्य॑म् अनु॑ पद्येत+++(=प्रसज्येत)+++ +++(- एकम् एवाहस् स्यादिति यावत्)+++।
इत्य् अ॑मावा॒स्या॑या॒म् पूर्व॒म् अह॑र् भवति, उत्त॑रस्मि॒न्न् उत्त॑रम् ।
नानै॒व् आर्ध॑मा॒सयो॑र् भवतः। नाना॑वीर्ये भवतः ।

Then they say, ‘If the days fall in the same half month,
then the strength of one day only will belong to the rite.’
The first day takes place on the night of new moon;
the second on the next day, verily the days fall on separate half-months, and have the several strengths.

ह॒विष्म॑न्-निधन॒म्+++(=स्तोमः)+++ पूर्व॒म् अह॑र् भवति।
हवि॒ष्-कृन्-नि॑धन॒म् उत्त॑र॒म् +++(अहः स्वस्य)+++ प्रति॑ष्ठित्यै +++(द्रष्टृभ्यां संबन्धेन?)+++ ॥ [13] ]
