‘ त्वया मन्यो ’ इति सप्तर्चं षोडशं सूक्तम् । आदितस्तिस्रस्त्रिष्टुभस्ततश्चतस्रो जगत्यः । पूर्ववदृषिदेवते । तथा चानुक्रान्तं- ‘ त्वया मन्यो चतुर्जगत्यन्तम् ’ इति । अजिरनाम्न्येकाह इदं सूक्तं मरुत्वतीयशस्त्रे निविद्धानम् । सूत्रं पूर्वसूक्त एवोदाहृतम् । विनुत्यभिभूतिषु वज्रेषुष्वेकाहेष्वेते सूक्ते मरुत्वतीयनिष्केवल्ययोः शस्ये। सूत्रितं च – विनुत्यभिभूत्योरिषुवज्रयोश्च मन्युसूक्ते ’ ( आश्व. श्रौ. ९. ८) इति ॥

Like the last hymn, this one is a simple address to Manyu “Battle Fury” asking for his aid in our battles, as well as in the division of the spoils. Rhetorically the hymn is characterized by verbal chaining: almost every verse ends with a word picked up by the very beginning of the next verse. Thus, “fire” in 1d/2a, “alone” 3d/4a, “victory” 4d/5a, “ready to hand” 5d/6a, “pour in” 6d/7a; only 2d/3a lacks this concatenation.

हे मन्यो हे मरुत्वः त्वया सरथं समानमेकमेव रथमारुह्येति शेषः । आरुजन्तः गच्छन्तः हर्षमाणासः हृष्टाः धृषिताः धृष्टाः तिग्मेषवः तीक्ष्णबाणाः आयुधा आयुधानि संशिशानाः सम्यग्निश्यन्तः नरः युद्धस्य नेतार इन्द्रादयो देवास्त्वदनुचरा वा अग्निरूपाः अग्निवत्तीक्ष्णदाहादिकर्माणो यद्वा संनद्धाः कवचिनः अभि प्र यन्तु युद्धे सहायार्थम् । अत्र त्वया मन्यो सरथमारुह्य रुजन्तः’ ( निरु. १०. ३०) इत्यादि निरुक्तमनुसंधेयम् ॥

पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - (मरुत्वः-मन्यो) हे सैनिकों सेयुक्तआत्मप्रभाव या स्वाभिमान ! (त्वया) तेरे साथ (सरथम्)समानरथ-शरीररथ में आरूढ़ होकर (हर्षमाणासः)हर्षित होते हुए (धृषिताः) दृढ़ बलवान् (आरुजन्तः) शत्रुओंका भली-भाँतिभञ्जन करते हुए (तिग्मेषवः) तीक्ष्ण बाणवाले (आयुधाः)शस्त्रों को (संशिशानाः) तीक्ष्ण करते हुए (अग्निरूपाः) अग्निकेसमान तापक (नरः) नेता (अभिप्रयन्तु) शत्रुओं के प्रति आक्रमण करें ॥१॥
ब्रह्ममुनि - भावार्थः
भावार्थभाषाः - आत्मप्रभाव या स्वाभिमान होने पर सैनिकों के साथ तीक्ष्ण शस्त्रास्त्रों से शत्रुओं का नाश किया जा सकता है, बिना आत्मप्रभाव या स्वाभिमान के सैनिक और शस्त्रास्त्र होते हुए भी शत्रुओं पर विजय नहीं पाया जा सकता ॥१॥

अत्र सूक्ते स्वाभिमानरूप आत्मप्रभावः सङ्ग्रामे विजयं प्रापयति तथा परमात्मस्तवनेन चात्मबलप्रापणमपि विजयाय आवश्यकम्।

भावार्थभाषाः - सेनानायक ऐसा होना चाहिए, जो अभिमानी शत्रु को दबा दे, उसके बल पराक्रम को कोई न रोक सके, किन्तु वह ही शत्रु के बल को तथा शत्रु को अपने वश में लेनेवाला हो ॥३॥

भावार्थभाषाः - आत्मप्रभाव विद्युत् जैसी शक्ति रखता है, बाधकों को दबाता है, उचित बात सुझाता है, इसका मूल स्रोत परमात्मा है, वह आत्मदा है, उसकी स्तुति प्रशंसा करनी चाहिए, जिससे कि वह उत्कृष्ट विचार सुझावे ॥५॥
