हे अश्विना अश्विनौ अयमनुपक्षीणस्तोत्रो द्युम्नीक एतन्नामक ऋषिः वां युवयोः स्तोमः स्तोता भवति । युष्मत्स्तुतौ कृतायां स्तोत्राणि नाल्पीभवन्ति किंतु पुनर्वर्धन्त इत्यर्थः। तत्र दृष्टान्तः । क्रिविर्न । क्रिविरिति कूपनाम । कूपो यथा सेके उदकसेचने वृष्टौ भवन्त्यां नाल्पोदको’ भवति तद्वत् । यद्वा । वां युवयोः स्तोमो युष्मद्विषया स्तुतिर्द्युम्न्यन्नवती खलु । स्तोत्रे कृते तस्मा अन्नादिकं प्रयच्छत इत्यर्थः । तस्माद्युवामस्मदीयं यज्ञं प्रति आ गतम् । स्तोत्राणि श्रोतुमागच्छतम् । हे नरा नरौ नेतारावश्विनौ सः अयं स्तोता दिवि द्योतमाने अस्मिन् यज्ञे सुतस्य अभिषुतस्य मध्वः मदकरस्य सोमस्य प्रियः स्तोत्रकारित्वेन प्रियतमो भवति । ततस्तेन सुतं सोमं पातं युवां शीघ्रमागत्य पिबतम् । तत्र दृष्टान्तः । गौराविव यथा तृषितौ गौरावेतन्नामको मृगौ इरिणे तटाकादिषूदकपानार्थं शीघ्रमागच्छतस्तद्वत् ॥

English translation:

“Aśvins, your praise is filled with plural nty as a well (with water) in time of rain; hasten here; it is especiallydear to the Soma when it is effused in the brilliant (offering); drink, leaders (of rites), as two Gauras (drink), at apool.”

Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya

Your praise is filled with plural nty: i.e., it brings abundance to the worshipper;

Dyumnī = glorious (RV 8.89.2);

Dyumnī = dyumnīka: Aśvins, Dyumnīka is your praiser

Brilliant is the praise song for you two, o Aśvins, like a blood-red (horse) [?] at its outpouring. Come here!
This (outpouring) of pressed honey is dear to heaven, o men. Drink like buffaloes at a salt-pocket.

On the difficult word krívi-, see comm. ad I.30.1. Though krívi- is found in a discouraging variety of contexts, our passage is similar to I.30.1, in that the root √sic ‘pour’ is associated with it.

This verse modulates rather cleverly from praise for the Aśvins (stómaḥ, pāda a) to pressed soma for them (mádhvaḥ sutásya, pāda c), pivoting on séke ‘at its outpouring’, which is literally applicable to the soma but, as is well known, metaphorically applicable to the praise.

SPLENDID, O Asvins, is your praise. Come fountain-like, to pour the stream.
Of the sweet juice effused-dear is it, Chiefs, in heaven-drink like two wild bulls at a pool.

Glänzend ist das Loblied für euch, Asvin, wie das falbe Roß, wenn es begossen wird. Kommet herbei! Von dem süßen Saft - der ist im Himmel beliebt, ihr Herren - trinket wie die Büffel an einem Rinnsal!

English translation:

“Drink, Aśvins, the exhilarating (Soma) as it drops (into the vessels)- - seat yourselves, leaders, on thesacrificial grass; rejoicing in the house of the worshipper, drink the sacred Soma with the oblation.”

Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya

As it drops:gharma = earthen pot called mahāvīra, also signifies the milk boiled in it: Drink, Aśvins, the exhilarating Somaand the milk; in the house of the worshipper: in the house of the man, manuṣo duroṇe, i.e. the sacrifice which isas a home to the deities; cf. RV 5.76.4; drink the sacred Soma: or, protect our lives together with our wealth

Drink the honeyed hot milk, o Aśvins; sit here on the ritual grass, o men. Reaching exhilaration here in the dwelling of Manu, protect our vital energy along with our property. ᳓

Drink the libation rich in sweets, O Asvins Twain: sit. Heroes, on the sacred grass.
Do ye with joyful heart in the abode of man preserve his life by means of wealth.

English translation:

“The worshippers have invoked you with all protections; come in the early mornings to the dwelling ofhim who has clipped the sacred grass, to the offering loved (by all the gods).”

Commentary by Sāyaṇa: Ṛgveda-bhāṣya

The worshippers: priyamedhaḥ =those whose sacrifices are acceptable; or, a reference to Ṛṣi Priyamedha; with all your protections: viśvābhirūtibhiḥ = with prayers for all desirable blessings

The Priyamedhas have called you here with all your forms of help. Drive your course right up to the pleasing sacrifice of the man who has twisted the ritual grass at the rituals of daybreak.

The Priyamedhas bid you come with all the succours that are yours.
Come to his house whose holy grass is trimmed, to dear sacrifice at the morning rites.

हे अश्विना अश्विनौ मधुमन्तं रसवन्तं मदवन्तं वा सोमं युवां पिबतम् । ततः बर्हिः बर्हिषि यज्ञे सुमत् शोभनम् आ सीदतम् । पश्चात् ववृधानौ सोमपानेन वृद्धौ ता तौ युवां दिवः द्युलोकात् सुष्टुतिम् अस्माभिः क्रियमाणां शोभनां स्तुतिम् उप गन्तं उपगच्छतम् । तत्र दृष्टान्तः । गौराविव यथा गौरमृगावन्यस्माद्देशात् इरिणं तटाकादिकं प्रति जलपानार्थमागच्छतस्तद्वत् ॥

English translation:

“Aśvins, drink the exhilarating Soma, sit down in your radiance on the sacrificial grass; waxing strong(through the libation), come from heaven to our praises as two Gadras to a pool.”

Drink the honeyed soma, o Aśvins; sit close together on the ritual grass. Having grown strong, come from heaven right up to our good praise, like buffaloes to a salt-pocket.

Drink ye the Soma rich in meath, ye Asvins Twain: sit gladly on the sacred grass.
So, waxen mighty, to our eulogy from heaven come ye as wild-bulls to the pool.

Trinket den versüßten Soma, Asvin; setzet euch auf das schöne Barhis! Euch erbauend kommet vom Himmel zum Preislied wie Büffel zu einem Rinnsal!

English translation:

“Come, Aśvins, with your glossy steeds, Dasras, riding in golden chariots, lords of good fortune,upholders of truth, drink the Soma.”

Now drive here with your horses frothing at the mouth, o Aśvins.
O wondrous ones of golden course, o lords of beauty, strong through truth, drink the soma.

Come to us, O ye Asvins, now with steeds of many a varied hue,
Ye Lords of splendour, wondrous, borne on paths of gold, drink Soma, ye who strengthen Law.

Kommet jetzt mit den fleckfarbigen Rossen, Asvin! Ihr Meister mit den goldenen Rädern, ihr Herren der Schönheit, trinket den Soma, ihr Mehrer der Wahrheit!

हे अश्विनौ विपन्यवः स्तोतारः अत एव विप्रासः विप्रा मेधाविनः वयं वाजसातये अन्नलाभाय वाम् । हिरवधारणे । युवामेव हवामहे स्तुतिभिराह्वयामः । ततः वल्गू। वल्गनं कुशलगमनम् । कुशलगमनशीलौ पुरुदंससा बहुकर्माणौ तौ युवां धिया अस्मदीयया स्तुत्याहूतौ सन्तौ श्रुष्टी । श्रुष्टीति क्षिप्रनाम । क्षिप्रमस्मभ्यं धनादिदानाय आ गतम् आगच्छतम् ॥ ॥१०॥

English translation:

“We, your wise praisers, invoke you to the enjoyment of the sacrificial viands; come quickly, Dasras, atthe sound of our praise, Aśvins, graceful in your movements, abounding in mighty deeds.”

Because we inspired poets in our admiration call upon you to win the prize,
you two, agreeable, wondrous, and possessed of many wonders—come here with insight and attentive hearing, o Aśvins.
Oldenberg groups the four Indra hymns 88–91 together, though their numbers of verses do not conform to the expected sequence.

Note the v-alliteration in ab with repetition of va/ā at the beginning and end and vip in the middle.

vayáṃ hí vāṃ hávāmahe vipanyavo, viprāso vājaśātaye

For we the priestly singers, fain tohymn your praise, invoke you for the gain of strength.
So, wondrous, fair, and famed for great deeds come to us, through our hymn, Asvins, when ye hear.
