तदाहुर्य आहिताग्निरुपवसथे ऽश्रु कुर्वीत का तत्र प्रायश्चित्तिरिति ।

(The Penances when the Agnihotri Sheds Tears, or Breaks his Vow, or Neglects the Performance of the Darśapûrṇimâ Isți, or when he allows his Fires to go out.)
They ask, When an Agnihotri on the day previous to the sacrifice should shed tears, by which the Puroḍāśa might be sullied, what is the penance for it?
मूलम्
तदाहुर्य आहिताग्निरुपवसथे ऽश्रु कुर्वीत का तत्र प्रायश्चित्तिरिति ।
विश्वास-प्रस्तुतिः
सो ऽग्नये व्रतभृते ऽष्टाकपालं पुरोळाशं निर्वपेत्तस्य याज्यानुवाक्ये त्वमग्ने व्रतभृच्छुचिर्व्रतानि बिभ्रद्व्रतपा अदब्ध इति ।

He must offer to Agni Vratabhṛit (Agni, the bearer of vows) a Puroḍāśa, consisting of eight pieces, under the recital of the following Anuvākyā and Yājyā : tvam agne vratabhṛit śuchir (Aśv. Śr. S. 3, 11) vratāni bibhrad vratapā (Aśv. Śr. S. 3, 11).[9]

[9]The Anuvâkyâ is according to Aśval : त्वमग्ने व्रतभृच्छुचिरग्ने देवानिहावह । उप यशं हविश्व नः ॥
The Yajyâ is : व्रतानि बिभ्रदव्रतपा अदब्धो यजानो देवानजरः सुवीरः । दधद्रत्नामि सुमृलीको अग्ने गोपाय नो जीवसे जातवेदः ॥

He must offer a Puroḍāśa, consisting of eight pieces to Agni vratapati (Agni, the lord of vows), under the recital of the following Anuvākyā and Yājyā : tvam agne vratapā asi (S, 11, 1); yad vo vayam pramināma (10, 2, 4).

सो ऽग्नये व्रतपतये ऽष्टाकपालं पुरोळाशं निर्वपेत्तस्य याज्यानुवाक्ये त्वमग्ने व्रतपा असि यद्वो वयं प्रमिनाम व्रतानीति ।

सो ऽग्नये पथिकृते ऽष्टाकपालं पुरोळाशं निर्वपेत्तस्य याज्यानुवाक्ये वेत्था हि वेधो अध्वन आ देवानामपि पन्थामगन्मेति ।

He must offer to Agni pathikṛit (paver of ways) a Puroḍāśa, consisting of eight pieces, under the recital of the following Anukāyā and Yājyā : vettha hi vedho adhvana (6 , 16, 3); ā devānām api (10, 2, 3).

He must offer to Agni tapasvat, janadvat and pākavat, a Puroḍāśa, consisting of eight pieces, under the recital of the following Anuvākyā and Yājyā : āyāhi tapasā janeṣu (Aśv. Śr. S. 3, 11); ā no yāhi tapasā (Aśv. Śr. S. 3, 11).[10]
