तदाहुर्यस्याग्नावग्निमुद्धरेयुः का तत्र प्रायश्चित्तिरिति ।

They ask, If they take fire from that belonging to an Agnihotri,[8] what is the penance for it?

तदाहुर्यस्याग्नावग्निमुद्धरेयुः का तत्र प्रायश्चित्तिरिति ।

स यद्यनुपश्येदुदूह्य पूर्वमपरं निदध्यात् ।

Should another Agni be at hand, then he should put him in the place of the former which has been taken.

स यद्यनुपश्येदुदूह्य पूर्वमपरं निदध्यात् ।

यद्य नानुपश्येत्सो ऽग्नये ऽग्निवते ऽष्टाकपालं पुरोळाशं निर्वपेत् ।

Were this not the case, then he ought to portion out to Agni Agnimat a Puroḍāśa, consisting of eight pieces (kapālas).

यद्य नानुपश्येत्सो ऽग्नये ऽग्निवते ऽष्टाकपालं पुरोळाशं निर्वपेत् ।

तस्य याज्यानुवाक्ये अग्निना ऽग्निः समिध्यते त्वं ह्यग्ने अग्निनेति ।

The Anuvākyā and Yājyā required for this purpose are, agninā agniḥ samidhyate (fire is kindled by fire, 1, 12, 6); tvâṁ hy âgne âgninâ (8, 43, 14).

तस्य याज्यानुवाक्ये अग्निना ऽग्निः समिध्यते त्वं ह्यग्ने अग्निनेति ।

आहुतिं वा ऽऽहवनीये जुहुयादग्नये ऽग्निवते स्वाहेति सा तत्र प्रायश्चित्तिः ।

Or, he may omit the Anuvākyā and Yājyā verses and (simply) throw (melted butter) into the Āhavanîya, under the recital of the words, to Agni Agnivat Svāhā! This is the penance for it.

आहुतिं वा ऽऽहवनीये जुहुयादग्नये ऽग्निवते स्वाहेति सा तत्र प्रायश्चित्तिः ।

तदाहुर्यस्य गार्हपत्याहवनीयौ मिथः संसृज्येयातां का तत्र प्रायश्चित्तिरिति ।

तस्य याज्यानुवाक्ये अग्न आयाहि वीतये यो अग्निं देववीतय इति ।

under the recital of the following Anuvākyā and Yājyā verses : agna âyāhi vītaye) 6, 16, 10.; yo agnim devavītaye (1, 12, 9).

तस्य याज्यानुवाक्ये स्वर्णवस्तोरुषसामरोचि त्वामग्ने मानुषीरीळते विश इति ।

and repeat the following Anuvākyā and Yājyā verses : svar ṇa vastor uṣasām arochi (7, 10, 2); tvám agne mânuṣīr īḷate viśaḥ (5, 8, 3).
