शत्रुनिवारणम्।
१ अथर्वाङ्गिराः। इन्द्रः। पथ्याबृहती।

Comment

Wanting in Pāipp. Used by Kāuś. (59. 14), with hymns 85 and 86, in a rite for welfare; and it is, with 118, reckoned (note to 25. 36) to the svastyayana gaṇa; while a schol. (note to 137. 4) adds it and 118 in the introduction to the ājyatantra; that another uses it with 116 was noted under that hymn. And Vāit. (23. 9) repeats it in the agniṣṭoma with the offering of the hāriyojanagraha.

Translation

1. Come, O Indra, with pleasant peacock-haired bays; let not any hold
   thee away, as snarers a bird; go over them as [over] a waste.

Notes

The verse is RV. iii. 45. 1, found also as SV. i. 246 et al., VS. xx.
53, TA. i. 12. 2. Our (and SPP’s) reading yāhí in b agrees with
all these, but is against our mss. and all but two of SPP’s; they leave
the word unaccented. RV.VS. in c have ní, which is plainly the
better reading, instead of ví; SV. has the corruption ní yemur ín
ná, and TA., yet worse, nyémúr ín ná. ⌊TA. has at the end, corruptly,
nidhanvéva tā́ṅ imi.⌋

Come hither, Indra, with bay steeds, joyous, with tails like pea- cock plumes. Let none impede thy way as fowlers stay the bird: pass o’er them as o’er desert lands.

राजा के धर्म का उपदेश।

पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - (इन्द्र) हे प्रतापी राजन् ! (मन्द्रैः) गम्भीर ध्वनियों से वर्तमान (मयूररोमभिः) मोरों के रोम [समान चिकने, विचित्र रंग, दृढ़, बिजुली से युक्त रोमवस्त्र] वाले (हरिभिः) मनुष्यों और घोड़ों के साथ (आ याहि) तू आ। (त्वा) तुझको (केचित्) कोई भी (मा वि यमन्) कभी न रोकें (न) जैसे (पाशिनः) जालवाले [चिड़ीमार] (विम्) पक्षी को, तू (तान् अति) उनके ऊपर होकर (इहि) चल (धन्व इव) जैसे निर्जल देश [के ऊपर से] ॥१॥

भावार्थभाषाः - राजा प्रजा की रक्षा के लिये चतुर विज्ञानियों के बनाये हुए कवच आदि से सजे हुए सेना, अश्व, रथ आदि के साथ शत्रुओं पर चढ़ाई करे ॥१॥ यह मन्त्र कुछ भेद से ऋग्वेद में है-म० ३।१।४५; यजुः०−२०।५३; साम० पू० ३।६।४ ॥
