36 (37). Husband and wife to one another.

अञ्जनम्।
१ अथर्वा। अक्षि, मनः। अनुष्टुप्।

Comment

Of this verse are found in Pāipp. only the first words, a lacuna following. Kāuś. (79. 2) prescribes its use in the marriage ceremonies of the fourth day, as the two spouses anoint one another’s eyes.

A charm to be pronounced by bride and bridegroom

Translation

1. The eyes of us two [be] of honey-aspect; our face [be] ointment;
   put (kṛ) thou me within thy heart; may our mind verily be together.

Notes

The comm. begins with aksāu, and Ppp. also reads the same. The
pada-text divides sahā́ ’sati into sahā́: ásati, which is plainly
wrong (should be asati).

Sweet are the glances of our eyes, our faces are as smooth as balm, Within thy bosom harbour me; one spirit dwell in both of us!

परस्पर मित्रता का उपदेश।

पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - (नौ) हम दोनों की (अक्ष्यौ) दोनों आँखें (मधुसंकाशे) ज्ञान की प्रकाश करनेवाली और (नौ) हम दोनों का (अनीकम्) मुख (समञ्जनम्) यथावत् विकाशवाला [होवे]। (माम्) मुझको (हृदि अन्तः) अपने हृदय के भीतर (कृणुष्व) कर ले, (नौ) हम दोनों का (मनः) मन (इत्) भी (सह) एकमेल (असति) होवे ॥१॥

भावार्थभाषाः - मनुष्य आपस में प्रीतियुक्त रह कर सदा धर्मयुक्त व्यवहार करके प्रसन्न रहें ॥१॥
