1.4.6 वाक्यान्वयाधिकरणम्
पत्यादीनां प्रियत्वं स्वकृतमिति वचस्यत्र जीवोऽभिधेयः द्रष्टव्यत्वेन
यस्मात् श्रुतमिह पतिपत्न्यादि सम्बन्ध भाक्त्वम् ।
नैवान्यस्मिन् हि वाक्यान्वयनं अमृतता हेतुभावस्तथोक्तः वाक्यान्ते
जीवलिङ्गश्रवणमिदमवस्थानतोऽन्तः परस्य ॥ 50 ॥

टीका

1.4.6 वाक्यान्वयाधिकरणम् The contention that in the section beginning with the text - ‘verily the husband is dear not for the sake of husband but for the sake of the Self1’ and ending with the text ‘The Self is to be seen2’, etc., it is only the individual soul that is referred to because the latter alone is related to husband, wife and others, is wrong because when viewed in relation to other passages such3 ‘Tell me of that alone which you know to be the means of immortality’ it is only Brahman that is referred to. And in the text in the end, namely विज्ञातारम् are kena विजानीयात् (बृह Up., II.v.15), the word विज्ञाता or knower which may be viewed as referring to जीव stands for the Supreme Brahman - the inner ruler of जीव.
