दया निग्रहे

भ्रमः

When bhagavAn can have dayA on all creatures, who are we to take enjoyment from of criticizing others?
… sarva-bhUta-dayA-puShpam

दयायां विवेकः

“sarva-bhUta-dayA” etc. is not a blanket mandate,
and it has clear exceptions in case of bhagavad-bhAgavata-pratikUla-s.

There, dayA can be said to take the form of nigraha.

भगवत्-प्रतिकूल-निग्रह-भोग्यता

भगवद्-भुक्त-शेष-भुजो हि भागवताः।
भगवद्-अभीष्टे खल-निग्रह-लीला-रसे, तच्छेषं सानन्दं भुञ्ज्महय् इति।

द्वार-पालादिषु भगवद्-भटेषु स-शस्त्रेषु सत्सु
खल-निग्रह-भोग्यतैव शिक्षणीया।
(वग्-वज्रास् तु ब्राह्मणाः। ) भक्ताङ्घ्रि-रेणूक्तयस् तु सन्ति।

असह्य-प्रातिकूल्ये हिंसा

महत्य् अपचारे, सताम् भायने वा
वादम् अतिरिच्य प्रतिरोध इष्टः।

विधिय्-इल् शाक्कियर्गळ्, निऩ्-पाल्

कुऱिप्प्+++(=चिह्नं)+++ ऎऩक्क् अडैयुम् आगिल्
कूडुमेल् तलैयै आङ्गे,
अऱुप्पदे करुमङ् कण्डाय्
अरङ्ग-मा-नगर्-उळाऩे। (८)

इति दिव्य-सूरिर् भक्ताङ्घ्रि-रेणुः।

If dayA were indiscriminate, one should explain where the “dayA” (as normally understood) is towards the buddhus mentioned by the ALHvAr here. Why are such verses memorized to date, and taught to little kids?

Of course, today there are more deadly threats today compared to the shramaNas and bauddha-s,
and major sections of these have given up betrayal,
have sought our refuge
and are allied with us against the unmAda-s.

But mutatis mutandis, the attitude of punishing the wicked with violence remains.
