This sankirtana of Annamacharya (c.1408-1503) gives us a glimpse as to how the original murti of Hampi Narasimha looked during heydays. It also provides us with an understanding of the surroundings as well.

Let me try to translate the kirtana:

సులభుఁడై వున్నాఁడు సుగ్రీవనారసింహుఁడు
నెలకొన్న దాసులకు నిధానము వీఁడే

ಸುಲಭುಡೈ ವುನ್ನಾಡು ಸುಗ್ರೀವನಾರಸಿಂಹುಡು
ನೆಲಕೊನ್ನ ದಾಸುಲಕು ನಿಧಾನಮು ವೀಡೇ

This Sugreeva Narasimha is affable
To his servants, He [is] the treasure [for them]

తుంగభద్రా తటమున తొడపై నిందిర తోడ
సింగారించుకొన్నవేల్పుసింహము వీఁడే
సంగతిగా దేవతలు జయవెట్టి కొలువఁగా
చెంగటనే మహిమలఁ జెలరేఁగీ వీఁడే

ತುಂಗಭದ್ರಾ ತಟಮುನ ತೊಡಪೈ ನಿಂದಿರ ತೋಡ
ಸಿಂಗಾರಿಂಚುಕೊನ್ನ ವೇಲ್ಪುಸಿಂಹಮು ವೀಡೇ
ಸಂಗತಿಗಾ ದೇವತಲು ಜಯವೆಟ್ಟಿ ಕೊಲುವಗಾ
ಚೆಂಗಟನೇ ಮಹಿಮಲ ಜೆಲರೇಗೀ ವೀಡೇ

On the banks of River Tungabhadra, having Lakshmi [Indira] seated on [His] thigh, this Narasimha, is praised properly by Devatas, as He performs His miracles

చలువ బండలమీఁద చక్కని కొండల దండ
అలరీని వీరనరహరి వీఁడె
వెలయు శంఖచక్రాల వేవేలు హస్తములతో
బలవంతుఁడై వున్నాఁడు పంతముతో వీఁడే

ಚಲುವ ಬಂಡಲ ಮೀದ ಚಕ್ಕನಿ ಕೊಂಡಲ ದಂಡ
ಅಲರೀನಿ ವೀರನರಹರಿ ವೀಡೆ
ವೆಲಯು ಶಂಖಚಕ್ರಾಲ ವೇವೇಲು ಹಸ್ತಮುಲತೋ
ಬಲವಂತುಡೈ ವುನ್ನಾಡು ಪಂತಮುತೋ ವೀಡೇ

Close to beautiful mountains, among cool boulders, shines this brave Narahari, holding Shankha & Chakra in [two of His] many arms, He is the strongest and fearsome.

పువ్వులతోఁటలనీడ భువనేశ్వరములోన
జవ్వనపు మనుజ కేసరి వీఁడె
ఇవ్వల శ్రీ వేంకటాద్రి నిరవై వరములిచ్చి
నవ్వుమోముతోడ భువనము లేలీ వీఁడే

ಪುವ್ವುಲ ತೋಟಲ ನೀಡ ಭುವನೇಶ್ವರಮುಲೋನ
ಜವ್ವನಪು ಮನುಜ ಕೇಸರಿ ವೀಡೆ
ಇವ್ವಲ ಶ್ರೀವೇಂಕಟಾದ್ರಿ ನಿರವೈ ವರಮುಲಿಚ್ಚಿ
ನವ್ವುಮೋಮು ತೋಡ ಭುವನಮು ಲೇಲೀ ವೀಡೇ

Inside the sanctum under the shadows of by flower gardens, [resides] this youthful Man-Lion, hither [He is] the one residing on Venkata Hill with a smiling face, showering boons and ruling the worlds.
