They are descended from Tankacharya the vAkyakAra aka Brahmanandin (cited by rAmAnuja as his philosophical predecessor), as per Srivatsankacharya. Tattai is a translation of Tanka. (उत्तमूरु-स्वामिनः शिष्यः, मद्रास-संस्कृत-महाविद्यालये प्रधानाचार्यः आसीत्।)

वृद्धानाम् ऊहाः प्राचीनोक्तिभिः परास्तास् तर्हि। kuppusvAmi, van buitenen प्रभृतिभिर् उदाहृतानि प्राचीन-वाक्यानि व्यक्तं तैर् न दृष्टानि।

In कायावरोहण of लाटदेश, to a blessed father by the name of विश्वराज from अत्रिगोत्र & a blessed mother named सुदर्शना, शिव, the विश्वराज, sent his अंश to earth to spread a सुदर्शन (a good दर्शन), the पाशुपतदर्शन, that destroys the bonds/पाशाः which bind a soul.

Ranga Nath Poudyal

Son of Tāntrika Pandit Brajnath Poudyal Atri (Guru of King Pratap Singh Shah, writer of Purascaryarnava). Ranga Nath grew up in Benaras although he was born in Makhantol, Kathmandu in 1773 AD as his father was exiled to Benaras by Queen Rajendra Laxmi. Ranga Nath was considered among the finest scholars in all of Kashi. Hence, the king of Kashi gave him the title “King of Pandits”. Once back to Nepal, he not only became Rājguru but also Mukhtiyār (Prime Minister) for a short time.
