- The new Gregorian Calendar came into vogue in Bassein Goa and other territories under Portuguese domination since October, 1583. But in the territories under the British, the old Julian Calendar held the field till 1752. That leads to difference of ten days before February 1700 and eleven days thereafter.

Records
There is a chance that the original letter from the collector and maybe the kararnamas may be in the Madras government archives. That shouldn’t be hard to trace as we know the district where the collector was placed.

In person access Readers can scrutinise records dating from the 17th C. They would be brittle so most will not be digitised.
Light can damage old paper is their excuse for not allowing phone photos. And the records cannot be accessed by all. One needs to carry letters from the university or be a bona fide scholar to access them. They will not even allow you the readers pass otherwise. Too many gatekeepers in indian archives.
