Eastern corded ware Aryas
saw something today about ‘aryans’ and a dispute emerged btwn hindus and white nationalists. since i’ve thought about these issues a bit, a thread on the aryans, what we know from genetics, linguistics, archaeology, in how we can relate them to today’s populations… (1/n etc.)
- aryans were an eastern branch of the corded ware culture that flourished in modern day poland after 3000 BC
- europeans as a whole, and in particular northern europeans, have more of this corded ware ancestry than s. asians
- cognate ‘arya’ appears in other IE languages, it seems to be restricted only to speakers of indo-iranian as an endonym. IOW, it seems to be the of eastern corded ware, not western or northern corded ware in europe
- modern indo-iranians descend in part directly from these ppl
- one reason to suppose this is the strong connection between early eastern corded ware (the fatyanovo culture circa 2900 bc and later in the forest-steppe zone of modern russia) and Y lineage R1a-Z93
- western/northern corded ware had a different branch of R1a
Religious descent
- the indian religious traditions, ‘hinduism,’ seems genealogical to be a direct descendant in part from the cultural traditions of the early indo-aryans
- see, how the gods mentioned in a 1340 BC mitanni treat with hittites mentions mitra, varuna, indra and ashvins
- swedes on a gene-by-gene comparison closer to the ancient aryans than any modern indian (quite admixed and diluted often). but, the indian is a direct descendant often, while swede is descended from cousin (so to speak).+++(4)+++
- this is why germanic gods were not indo-aryan gods
Aryan explosion
- the aryan explosion was actually late; a second IE eruption out of eurasia’s heart. the first was that of hte yamnaya and their corded ware offspring. ‘aryan’ ethnogenesis occurred over nearly 1,000 years as they migrated east gradually from the baltic fringe to the urals
- around (a bit before) 2000 BC the aryans of the volga steppe south of the urals and west toward the don seem to have domesticated a particular lineage of horse. DOM1. this gave rise to all modern lineages except mongolian “wild horse”
- these horses drew war chariots
- the war chariot resulted in the aryan expansion across central eurasia, the ‘andronovo horiozon.’ indo-iranian groups like scythians, sarmatians, the peoples of iran and northern india, come straightforwardly out of this cultural revolution +++(No - dharma led to the explosion, not chariot. 4)+++
- but the chariot spread elsewhere
- btwn 1800 BC and about 1200 BC it spread across the old world, from egypt to china to western and northern europe. linguistic analysis and the clear similarity of these light war chariots to the origin indo-iranian proto-types indicates migration of ppl or cultural diffusion
R1a-Z93
- R1a-Z93, so closely connected to the earliest indo-iranians, is a sign of their demographic heft, and legacy. frequencies of 10-50% are normal in the indo-iranian speaking zone. small fractions in eastern europe and in northern china suggest imprint of historical iranian ppl
Influence on Europe
- the absence of R1a-z93 in central western and northern europe is evidence of minimal mass migration of indo-iranian males into this region…but there was some cultural influence!
- the chariot, yes. but also the ‘horse cult’ and the ‘sun cult’ seem to emerge after 2000 BC
- the demographic explosion of indo-iranians that swept south and east, and later refluxed back westward with the scythians, did not seem to have included a push west into europe proper. BUT aspects of indo-iranian influence are found in greece, scandinavia, etc.
- the indo-iranian horse culture’s spread can be seen in the horse sacrifice: the similarities are too close to be coincidence; horse-culture spread a tight socio-religious package, even without mass migration : TW
- the scandinavian sun/horse cult that persisted btwn 1750 BC and went extinct after 600 AD may be another legacy of aryan culture-bearers. the men who transmitted this to the north may not even have been indo-iranian themselves; perhaps they had been inducted into by maryannu?
H conservativism
- all that being said… despite indo-iranian influence across much of eurasia through horse-culture, indian native religious and cultural tradition preserves its memory and forms with high fidelity in a manner that is not true with almost any other indo-european cultural group
- many mandalas in the vedas, holy to hinduism, seem to date to between 1500-1300 BC. the oldest layers of sanskrit have retroflex and refer to india clearly, so their composition was subcontinental, but they were but centuries removed from the steppe
- most sacred wisdom possessed by celtic or germanic adepts, oral memory of their ancestry and origins, were lost through both romanization and christianization (the irish were the exception with their book of invasions and such). in contrast, indians can hear their bronze age
Coopting
- northern european pagans (generally ‘white nationalists’) co-opt the word aryan, but it is still an ethnonym used by some indo-iranian people, in particular, indians. hindu nationalists will still use the term “aryavarta.” and indians will give boys name “aryan”
- anthony writes about the traditions of ‘dog warriors’ recollected by hindus reflected in the wolf warriors that gathered around harald fairhair in pagan norway. due to their isolation in the north scandinavians preserved many old indo-european ways, but the cross came 🤷🏾♂️
brAhmin conservativism
- brahmins, divided into numerous jatis, are traditional carriers of vedic culture. but there is variation: india’s north suffered oppression under muslims. the far south’s kerala’s nambudiri brahmins may have the most ‘archaic’ recitations of the vedas +++(नैवम्। ५)+++
- so you have nambudiri brahmins in steaming jungles, 17.5% corded ware in ancestry, preserve in their traditions the sounds and in recitation at least the folkways of ancient eastern corded ware ppl who lived on the frigid steppes south of the urals 4,000 yrs ago
- in contrast, the average norwegian is 50% similar to the eastern corded ware. were it not for snorri sturluson and the observations of christians like adam of bremen we would be entirely in the dark about many of their distinctive religous beliefs (as it is for anglosaxons)
Coopting and denial
- today, in 2026, we know so much. many of us can agree on the basic facts. but their interpretation, their shading, and their weighting, vary a great deal. an indian hindu’s ancestry, their blood, is greatly diluted in proportion to that of the n. european re: corded ware
- but many hindus may wonder about the contempt that northern european racialists hurl at them when they have to literally borrow the word aryan, which almost certainly not what their ancestors called themselves, because they lack continuity with their past
- it is unfortunate, in my opinion, that due to the experiences of colonialism, many indian hindus deny the exogenous proveance of the indo-aryans, likely in the forest-steppe zone of eastern europe 4,900 years ago (when you see Z-93 mutation among males being dominant)
- but, it is also unfortunate when europeans who are attempting to ‘reconstruct’ their ’lost heritage’ deny the legitimacy of the very people who have not lost that connection despite the onslaughts of islam and modernity, and the reality of cultural synthesis
i suppose i will end by saying that the blood may be diluted, but the memory, is far stronger
