P.V. Kane (HDh I-II: 1218) places Varadarāja “about 1450–1500 A.D.” without giving any evidence for this date. The editors of the Vyavahāranirṇaya (p. xviii), on the other hand, place Varadarāja in the 13^th century, somewhat prior to the Smṛticandrikā.
