viShNu’s prAyashchitta?
When Pulastya Maharṣi explains to Bhīṣma the greatness of many sacred kṣetras, he says that at the kṣetra called Drumī, Śiva is worshipped by Brahmā and the other devas, and that Viṣṇu himself removed his doṣa there.
Below are the verses and translations taken directly from the Critical Edition of the Mahābhārata published by BORI.
From the Mahābhārata, Āraṇyaka Parva, Chapter 80:
Pulastya said:
3.80.86–88: “The wise declare that by worshipping the deity Śaṅgukarṇeśvara one obtains the merit of performing ten Aśvamedha sacrifices. O best of the Bharatas, O foremost of the Kurus, after circumambulating that kṣetra, one should go to the tīrtha called Drumī, celebrated in all the three worlds and granting release from all sins. There Brahmā and the other devas worship Maheśvara. One who bathes there and worships Rudra, surrounded by the hosts of devas, becomes freed from all sins accumulated since birth.”
3.80.90–91: “There the excellent man Drumī was praised and honoured by all the devas. One who bathes there obtains the fruit of an Aśvamedha sacrifice. O greatly wise one! It was there that the mighty Viṣṇu, after slaying the enemies of the devas, came formerly and purified himself.”
3.80.91 Jitvā yatra mahāprājña Viṣṇunā prabhaviṣṇunā | Purā śaucaṃ kṛtaṃ rājan hatvā daivatakaṇṭakān ||”

“shaucha” does not necessarily mean “removing bad karma-s”. Even cleaning your butt is called shaucha.
So, viShNu’s shaucha can merely mean bodily purification or even cleaning of one’s weapons, and not necessarily a prAyashchitta.
And this can be the cause of the said tIrtha getting its sin-cleaning properties, and not it’s effect.
Any place or waters which had contact with viShNu or bhAgavata-s acquires such properties; hence their tIrthankaratva. mahAbhArata itself says-
आस्ते हरिर् अचिन्त्यात्मा
तत्रैव मधुसूदनः । तत् पुण्यं तत् परं ब्रह्म
तत् तीर्थं तत् तपोधनम् ॥

Who gets Brahmahatyā doṣa?
“Why was Indra alone afflicted with Brahmahatyā doṣa after killing Vṛtrāsura?” – @beigomaacademymathsclub5873’s contact
Who says Indra alone is afflicted? Any baddha-jIva doing brahmahatyA is afflicted.
