संस्कृत-सामीप्यम्
I know zero Old Persian but the first time I read some inscriptions I was shocked to find nearly 40-50% of it to be intelligible on first read. That motivated me to try to render one into Sanskrit. … Old Persian is closer to Sanskrit in grammar & morphology than it’s modern descendant - Hindi.
Also, Old Persian isn’t the closest language to Sanskrit. That honor goes to Avestan. Which is 1000+ years older than Old Persian and essentially the exact same as Sanskrit in everything except some phonological differences. Vedic Sanskrit & Old Avestan are closer to each other than Hindi & Haryanvi are to each other.
