Atleast 200 years old weapon of #Khalsa army. A chakkar/quoit. Engraved in gold are verses by fifth #Sikh Guru Shri Arjan Dev that serve as a #RakshaMantra (protective spell). Each line of mantra makes multiple invocations to the #Hindu god #Vishnu. Language of mantra is Sahaskriti —a modified version of Sanskrit first used by founder of Sikhi —Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Here’s text of Raksha Mantra in Devanagari with my English translation:

सिर मस्तक रख्या पारब्रहमं हस्त काया रख्या परमेस्वरह ॥
आतम रख्या गोपाल सुआमी धन चरण रख्या जगदीस्वरह ॥
सरब रख्या गुर दयालह भै दूख बिनासनह ॥
भगति वछल अनाथ नाथे सरणि नानक पुरख अचुतह ॥

ParamBrahma protects my head & forehead, ParamEshwara my hands & body.
Gopal Swami protects my soul, JagadEshwara my wealth & feet.
Every tiny bit protected by Merciful Guru who destroys fear & suffering.
