Original

तदा न व्याप्रियन्ते तु ज्ञायमानतया गुणाः ।
दोषाभावे तु विज्ञेये सत्तामात्रोपकारिणः ३०४४ ॥

tadā na vyāpriyante tu jñāyamānatayā guṇāḥ |
doṣābhāve tu vijñeye sattāmātropakāriṇaḥ 3044 | |

“At the time (of the cognition of the absence of defects), the excellences do not function on being themselves cognised; in fact, it is by mere presence that they help in the cognising of the absence, of defects”.—[Ślokavārtika 1.1.2; 67].—(3044)

Kamalaśīla

Kumārila has argued as follows:—“At the time (of the Cognition of the absence of defects) the excellences do not function on being themselves cognised; in fact, it is by mere presence that they help in the cognising of the absence of defects”.—[Ślokavārtika 1. 1. 2; 67.]
