यो यत्र व्यापृतः कार्ये न हेतुस्तस्य चेन्मतः ।
यस्मिन्नियतसद्भावो यः स हेतुरितीष्यताम् ॥ ५३२ ॥yo yatra vyāpṛtaḥ kārye na hetustasya cenmataḥ |
yasminniyatasadbhāvo yaḥ sa heturitīṣyatām || 532 ||“If a thing that is active towards the producing of an effect is not to be regarded as the cause of this latter, [what then?]”—Then let that be accepted as the ‘cause’ of a thing whose presence is always essential for the appearance of this latter.—(532)

‘Then let, etc.’—This sentence supplies the Buddhist’s answer to the other’s objection.—(532)
