By the turn of chance, a young Gen Z man and woman (not a couple) met me. They are non-V1 savarNa-s from the indraprastha region. Both came from an affluent background, with their parents having earned money outside India. As a result, they had completed their undergraduate education in the US from a decent school and were running their own enterprise in the desh upon returning (they remain quite successful at it). They came across as extremely well-spoken in English and Hindi, and way more world-savvy and street-smart than I am. Both had faced some unexpected and inexplicable problems.
For the young man, it took the form of an unexpected mental health issue arising from self-image issues – sort of mysterious, given that he was quite successful in their own hustle. It made him rather depressed and do some reckless things.
For the young woman, it took the form of an apparent haunting in the apartment she moved into and consequent trouble with her lover.
A friend recommended to the young man that he regularly chant “bhUr bhuvaH suvaH” aloud. What the friend meant was that he chant the sAvitrI aloud (!), assuming he would get it. But our young man took it to mean that he should only chant the mahAvyAhR^iti-s and kept doing so.
The young woman was advised by her family to chant the hanUmat-40. While born and identifying as H, they had never practiced the religion seriously. Nevertheless, the above practices apparently brought them relief after a couple of months.
They were very happy with the outcome until they confessed to an acquaintance that they routinely drank alcohol and even recited the vyAhR^iti-s or hanUmat-40 when under the influence.
I have not evidence these young folks were afflicted by a parakarman or their problem started out with a rebound of a poorly performed mantra-prayoga. The common acquaintance felt this might happen to them.
That acquaintance said their troubles would return with great fury and asked them to talk to me. What would one advise people in such a situation?
Shukla YV vidhana literature has a vyahrti kalpa that builds on pranava kalpa.- just chanting the vyahrtis should be ok. If they’re v3s, alcohol should be ok as well? Instructing them to not chant after consuming alcohol, simple prayashchitta and basic hygiene protocol for japa
vyAhR^iti-kalpa -> bodhAyana too. That was my general approach too.
Probably guide them to an established place of iks in the dvipa, to be benefited from? Like the chera shrine to gopala in Hastinapura, Dalasapura etc, where aushadha and anushthana can be administered with accountability over a longer period for avasada, badha etc.
That might have been the more proper approach to start with rather than randomly getting to vyAhR^iti recitation. I personally think h-40 recitation is fine but not when drunk.
