The great bauddha mantravAdin, vilAsavajra’s commentary (700s-800s of CE) of the ma~njushrI-nAma-saMgIti is interesting in being a rather early example of an expansive commentary on a nAma-mantra text within a tAntrika context. In the later kaula tradition, we see such commentaries, like the celebrated work of bhAskararAya. It makes one wonder if there were comparable early H works (leaving aside the viShNu-1000, which emerged in a non-tAntrika context).
